‘Good catch Sir!’

QuadIt’s always a pleasure to read of the little episodes in Louis’ school life that he chose to tell to his parents. Here is one from February 1913, in Old Quad of Rugby School (shown left and below):

I had an amusing incident the other day. I was going along in quad just behind Mr Evers (one of the School House tutors) – and it was very windy. Suddenly a tremendous gust of wind caught his cap and lifted it high into the air – it came down very fast and I made a great catch low down in the slips! He was very braced and said “Good catch sir!”.”

Mr Claude Evers taught at Rugby for many years, and had been a great friend and mentor to the schoolboy Ronald Poulton, later the England Rugby Captain killed at Ploegsteert Wood in 1915.
